Quit your New Years resolution?  Here’s why.

Close your eyes and think back…

Think back to January 1st 2016.

You made up your mind, things were going to be different this year.

“I’m finally getting my act together” you said…

I’m making time for MYSELF, I’m going to eat better and I’m going back to the gym” you said…

You start off like a house on fire and then you fade away like every other year. Maybe you were working out regularly and not seeing the results you want? Maybe you just couldn’t make the time you said you would.

Or maybe you just couldn’t stay motivated.

Here are 5 reasons so many of us fail to get results no matter what time of year.

1. You don’t have a plan:

Ask yourself this question: Why am I training, what’s the purpose of my training?

People fall short of their goals because they don’t make a plan according to their goals.

When you get in the car, do you know where you’re going before you start driving, or do you just start driving and expect to show up somewhere?

When you get in the car you have a plan, you know where you’re going. If you want to build a great building like the Freedom Tower you’re going to go through years of planning, of digging deep to set a foundation so that finally after all of that a beautiful building rises and you’re able to see your masterpiece.

You’re no different, your body is that masterpiece. On your road to personal success you need to create a plan, be patient and then chip away by taking positive steps EVERY DAY in the form of good decisions that line up with your ultimate goal

It starts with a plan, you got one?

2. You need a coach:

At Training For Warriors our trainers are coaches. Coaches guide people to achieve their full potential. Coaches get more excited about your accomplishments and results than their own. If you’ve tried (and failed) to set a New Year’s resolution (or several) in the past, I know it might be hard to believe in yourself. It’s a lot easier when you have a motivating coach in your corner, someone that believes in you and believes that by holding you accountable you will reach your goals.

3. You don’t track your progress:

Do you keep a record of what you’re doing in the gym? Are you even on a program or are you just “doing stuff”? Tracking your workouts will help you sustain an “I CAN do this” attitude. All you need is a notebook and a pen. At Training for Warriors we have incredible software called Warrior Tracker included with all of our memberships.

Every workout is right on your phone or computer and it allows you to record the number of repetitions performed, and how much weight you used plus so much more. Improving your best performance on a regular basis offers positive feedback that will encourage you to keep going. Your goals are a lot easier to achieve when you know where you’re going.

4. Giving Up too Easily:

So you made time in your busy schedule to work out, you bought all new workout clothes and sneakers, and you’re ready to start working out. Two weeks into it and you are feeling great and everything is going as planned. But then something comes up at work, you have to stay late or go in early and you miss your first work out. Then one of your kids gets sick which causes you to miss your second workout of the week. I see this every year, but the truth is that it’s ok if you miss a few workouts. You won’t have to start back from the beginning, you just have to get back on it and get your feet moving again. We call it the Uturn. Getting back into the groove is much easier; you just have to get your mind back into it.

5. You’re Not Comfortable with Getting Uncomfortable:

The TFW System lives by a few mantras one of which is “get comfortable being uncomfortable”. When you step out of your comfort zone and accomplish something it is a sign of growth that can add energy and excitement to anything you’re doing. We all feel self-conscious, nervous and even inadequate at times when we find ourselves in these situations. However I firmly believe that all personal growth is dependent upon pushing the boundaries of your comfort zone. I think a lot of people fail because they either take on too much too soon, or they’re not ready to get out of their comfort zone.

Take a look at your resolutions and find where your weak spots are–be honest and true to yourself. If you really want change, make sure you don’t fall into the trap of only wishing for something. If you fail or hit road block keep going it’s the only way you’ll ever make progress. Progress is growth and growth is life, so aim for some personal growth this year and make 2016 the best year yet.
